Speed and aggressive driving continues to be raised as a concern amongst local residents in East Devon. Such driving behaviour is often a core contributing factor to tragic incidents across our road network.
The A3052 through East Devon in particular has been identified as a route which has seen more than its fair share of incidents.
As we approach the midst of Winter (when the days are darker and conditions often worse) it is worth remembering the impact that dangerous or careless driving can have on others – in many such incidents it is not the one responsible for the inappropriate driving that is injured.
Speed, particularly along the A3052 has been noted as a particular issue of late, and proactive (marked and unmarked) patrols will continue. In equal measure are the reports of dangerous over-taking and tailgating – both of which are unacceptable, dangerous and highly irresponsible.
The map indicates the tragic number of road traffic collisions that have resulted in injuries or worse over a period of 2 years across the A3052 in East Devon. These figures have included (between the Dorset Border and Exeter) 4 fatalities, 16 individuals left with serious life changing injuries and 43 incidents involving non-life-changing injuries.
The impact of these cannot be overstated.
The message is clear.
Watch your speed, keep your distance and don’t overtake unless it is safe to do so. That extra 30 seconds you might gain (if that) is simply not worth the risk.
